PROF. DR. MED. DENT. ANTON SCULEAN

Professor and Chairman of the Periodontology Department and currently Executive Director of the School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern. He got his DMA at Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary (1990) and his MS at the universities of Münster, Germany and Royal Dental College, Aarhus, Denmark.
He received his Habilitation (PhD) at the University of Saarland, Homburg, Germany. He was Head of the Department of Periodontology and Programme Director, EFP accredited postgraduate programme, Radboud University, Nijmegen, Netherlands (2004-2008).
He received many research awards, including the Anthony Rizzo Award of the Periodontal Research Group of the International Association for Dental Research, and the IADR/Straumann Award in Regenerative Periodontal Medicine. He has received honorary doctorates – Semmelweis University and the Victor Babes University in Timisoara, Romania.
He is the editor of Periodontal Regenerative Therapy. He serves on the editorial board of various dental journals, as editor, associate editor or editor-in-chief. Professor Sculean presided the Periodontal Research Group of the IADR (2009-2010) and currently presides the Swiss Periodontology Society and is a member of the executive committee of the European Periodontology Federation.
